Horizon 2020 – Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT)

The vision is for Europe to become a global leader within a number of strategic growth technologies. LEIT supports research, development and demonstration within a range of cross-cutting and strategic technologies that support progress within a broad spectrum of societal challenges.

The focus is on a number of growth technologies such as micro and nanotechnology, electronics, photonics, biotechnology, advanced materials and advanced production processes, information and communication technology (ICT) and space travel. The high-tech projects must contribute to Europe becoming a global leader in these areas, and should strengthen the business competitiveness and productivity.

Horizon 2020 – Energy

The vision is to create a reliable, sustainable and competitive energy system. There are three main areas of the programme:

  • Energy efficiency, including, among other things, district heating technologies, building design, building materials and components as well as SME development and demonstration of energy-efficient products, services and processes.
  • Competitive, low-carbon energy, including the development of the next generation of renewable electricity and heating / cooling technologies, the modernisation of the European electricity grid and the development of next-generation storage technologies. 
  • Promoting intelligent urban and local communities, including, among others, large-scale demonstration projects integrating energy, ICT and transport technologies.

Horizon 2020 – Climate

The aim of the programme is to achieve a resource-efficient and climate-friendly economy, while protecting natural resources and ecosystems.

The programme addresses a number of challenges related to curbing climate change, environmental protection, resource efficiency and raw materials. There is a need for interdisciplinary cooperation and thus a focus on ICT, social sciences and humanities.

The programme is divided into three categories:

  • WASTE (waste management)
  • WATER INNOVATION
  • Low-emission and resource-efficient economy with sustainable supply of raw materials

The sub-program supports research and innovation projects aimed at protecting Europe’s citizens, societies and economy, including such issues as property, infrastructure and services, progress, political stability and welfare.
